Census 2021

Census 2021 will provide a snapshot of modern society

Households across North Yorkshire will soon be asked to take part in Census 2021.
The census is a once-in-a-decade survey that gives us the most accurate estimate of all the
people and households in England and Wales. It has been carried out every decade since
1801, with the exception of 1941.

Census Day is 21st March 2021

March is here and along with the arrival of the daffodils, every household will
be receiving an invitation to complete the census. The letter contains a digital
access code which will let you fill out the questionnaire online.
You will be able to complete the questionnaire on your tablet, smartphone or
computer. This shouldn’t be difficult and everything has been made as
straightforward as possible.
However, the census does realise that some people are not confident
online or may not have access to a computer. If this is the case, don’t
worry. You can request to have a paper copy and fill the census in as you
always have done in the past.

You can complete the questionnaire before, on or after March 21, but it is
the law that you do complete the census. Failure to do so risks a fine of
£1,000.

Don’t worry, your personal data is secure and no personal information will
be shared for 100 years.

The information gathered by the census is vital for shaping so many aspects
of our society, including education, transport and healthcare. Looking at past
censuses also opens a window on history, showing how we used to live.
After Census Day, staff will be visiting any households who haven’t
completed their forms and will be able to help you. All staff will have ID
badges and full personal protective equipment (PPE) and will remain socially
distanced at all times. They will not ask to enter your house and you should
never pay for help.

Please complete your questionnaire, your voice is important
