Richmondshire is welcoming the Tour de Yorkshire once more this year – with Leyburn hosting finishes for both the ladies and men’s races on May 1.

The riders will also travel through a large swathe of the district as they wend their way from Skipton to the finish line – Hawes, the Buttertubs, Reeth and Grinton Moor are all on the route.

The four day tour – which takes place between April 30 to  3 May – will visit 160 villages, towns and cities, 50 of which are featuring for the very first time.

Last year’s race saw 1.9 million people line the route and a record 28 million TV viewers watched the action in 190 countries around the world. Independent research also found the Tour boosted the Yorkshire economy by £60 million.

Leyburn Town Council s now working with the District Council and local community groups on the logistics of bringing the race to the town – with a full day of events planned to celebrate the occasion.

The District Council will be providing regular updates through a community newsletter. If you would like to receive the newsletter in the future please sign up here.
