Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic and in light of the risks posed, the annual Remembrance Sunday Service at the War Memorial in Leyburn will be a closed wreath laying ceremony this year for a limited number of nominated representatives.

Members of the Public are kindly asked to stay at home and observe a Two Minutes Silence in the safety of their own homes or gardens.  The wreath laying ceremony will be streamed live via The Leyburn Town Council Facebook page and the link will also be put on the Town Council website for those that would like to participate or view it later.

We recognise this will be deeply disappointing for all who normally take part and it is not a step that has been taken lightly. This decision has been taken by the Council based on expert advice and government guidance to protect the health and well-being of those who would have been travelling to and participating in the event.

Likewise on Armistice Day itself, Wednesday 11th November, we urge people to follow the advice to stay at home please.

Despite the changes this year, we are encouraging people to ensure Remembrance Sunday & Armistice Day is still marked appropriately by taking part in remote and socially distanced Remembrance activity, whether that be placing poppy pictures in windows, watching the local ceremony online, the national ceremony on television or pausing for the Two Minute Silence in their home or on their doorsteps.

Take care & stay safe at home
